With the 7th overall ranking at the Olympiad (Chess Olympics), the Vietnamese women's chess team was awarded a place at the World Team Cup by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

Coach of the Vietnamese chess team Lam Minh Chau said that according to FIDE regulations, the top 5 teams of the Olympiad and the 5 champions of the continents will qualify for the World Cup, but China and Poland were awarded the spots earlier, so the Vietnamese women's team was promoted to participate in the tournament. Only 10 teams, including chess powerhouses such as Russia, the US, China, Poland, and Ukraine, are allowed to participate in this World Cup. The teams will compete in 9 rounds from June 17 to 26 to choose the champion.

The Vietnamese women's team competed with five players including Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Hoang Thi Bao Tram, Vo Thi Kim Phung, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung, and Luong Phuong Hanh. Meanwhile, the men's team did not qualify to participate in this tournament.
