Nghe An police in Da Nang arrest 2 young men hacking Facebook to defraud billions

On the morning of April 19, the Nghi Loc District Police Investigation Agency announced that the unit had successfully broken up Project 418L, arrested two subjects residing in Quang Tri province for online fraud and money appropriation, and seized many related exhibits.

Recently, Nghi Loc District Police received many people reporting that someone used the messenger of a relative working abroad to request money transfer to the account number provided by the subject.

Due to subjectivity, these people did not verify or check, so they were deceived. Recognizing that this was a group of subjects using high technology to commit fraud, the leaders of Nghi Loc District Police established Project 418L to fight against them.

Through initial investigation, the accounts provided by the victim have the following numbers:030044334506, Sacombank, Phan Chu Trinh transaction office branch, Thanh Hoa city, account holder is Le Trong Khoa and account number 030044338676, Sacombank, Hai Phong branch, account holder is Nguyen Thi Thao. However, nThe people who own these accounts don't know anything, they were just tricked through Facebook into opening an account.

Through professional measures, the investigation agency determined that the subject may be residing in Quang Tri province or Da Nang city. The task force sent two working groups to these two locations to conduct combined reconnaissance measures, identify the subject, his place of residence and method of operation.

When the collected documents were ripe enough, the leaders of Nghi Loc District Police decided to break the case.

At 12:00 on April 16, investigators from the task force raided a rented room in Hoa Khanh Bac ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city, catching Phan Anh Tuan (born in 1997) and Ho Van Duc (born in 1993), both residing in Trieu Thuong commune, Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province, committing fraud via the internet. At the scene, the authorities seized 01 laptop, 01 desktop computer, 02 USBs, 02 IphoneX phones used for fraud, 01 motorbike, 01 gold necklace and over 70 million VND.

During the investigation, Tuan and Duc initially confessed to having committed 11 cases of fraud over the internet. The victims were from 8 provinces and cities across the country. Among them, 2 victims were from Nghi Loc district.

The trick of this group of young people is to find ways to hack Facebook passwords of people living abroad.

Then, using the messenger app, they sent messages asking for money or related to money to their relatives in Vietnam. If they encountered ignorant relatives who did not check and verify, Tuan and Duc continued to defraud and appropriate money. Initially, the subjects confessed that the amount of money they had defrauded was up to over 1 billion VND.

Currently, the case is being further investigated by Nghi Loc District Police.
