Announcing the results of the 2015 forest inventory: Nghe An has nearly 1 million hectares of forest
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of November 23, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee held a conference to announce the results of forest inventory and deploy the 10-year assessment plan of the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve. The conference was chaired by Mr. Dinh Viet Hong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. Also attending the conference were international organizations on forest protection, representatives of relevant ministries and branches, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh provinces and representatives of districts, cities and towns.

The national forest inventory and survey project for the period 2013-2016 began in 2013. Nghe An is one of 25 provinces implementing and completing it in 2015. The goal is to accurately determine the area and quality, establish forest management records to serve the annual monitoring of forest and forestry land management, and propose solutions to improve the effectiveness of forest protection and development.

After the inventory, Nghe An has 942,508.48 hectares of forest, of which 679,301.66 hectares are planned for 3 types of forest; natural forest: 762,785.8 hectares, planted forest 116,515 hectares; land without forest 293,750 hectares. After the inventory, Nghe An has a timber reserve of about 91,003,287m33, bamboo 1,981,681,000 trees.
There have been 376 communes, wards and towns in 21 districts, towns and cities in the province that have been inventoried. The People's Committee of Nghe An province has issued a decision approving the results of the forest inventory and assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to be responsible for managing the entire forest inventory database of the province in accordance with the provisions of law.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Dinh Viet Hong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the People's Committees of districts and towns to use the results of forest inventory to review and adjust the area and planning boundaries of the three types of forests to suit the reality; Develop a plan to allocate forests for lease to organizations and individuals in need. For the forest land area temporarily assigned to the Commune People's Committee for management, it is necessary to have a plan to organize allocation and lease to households and communities for long-term stable management and use... as a basis for implementing policies to protect and develop forests associated with rapid and sustainable poverty reduction.

Assign the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to provide training on the use of the software for exploiting forests and forestry land databases, sharing information on forest inventory results; establish a local forestry database connected to the national FORMIS system.
The Provincial People's Committee also assigned the organization to evaluate the 10-year results of the biosphere reserve as an opportunity to review the achievements and draw solutions to overcome difficulties, in order to manage the biosphere reserve more effectively, while consolidating and enhancing the image of Vietnam in general and the Western Nghe An Biosphere Reserve in particular. Based on the 2015 forest inventory results, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development annually monitors, updates, and upgrades according to the causes of forest changes to standardize data.
