(Baonghean) - Over the past time, Nghe An Lung Hospital has continuously improved the quality of medical examination and treatment; aiming to become the Respiratory Center of the North Central region. As a permanent unit of the Provincial Steering Committee for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control, the Hospital has implemented synchronous solutions, thanks to which, Nghe An's TB prevention and control performance indicators have been highly appreciated by the National Tuberculosis Control Program.
After more than 60 years of construction and development, with different names, but in any circumstances, the staff of Nghe An Lung Hospital always strives their best; carrying out the mission of taking care of people's health. As a permanent unit of the Provincial Steering Committee for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control, in recent years, with the strong direction of the leadership and the solidarity and determination of the staff, Nghe An Lung Hospital has achieved many remarkable successes in the work of preventing and controlling tuberculosis and lung diseases in the province; with indicators highly appreciated by the National Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Project.

2018 was a memorable milestone when the Hospital was renamed Nghe An Lung Hospital; along with that, the Hospital implemented many strategic solutions. The Hospital issued many specialized Resolutions, outlining a roadmap suitable for each stage of the unit's development. Accordingly, the Hospital focused on developing the "backbone" factors - people, equipment and facilities.
Every year, the Hospital plans and sends staff for training in advanced specialties and key specialties to ensure sufficient human resources in terms of quantity and quality in terms of professional qualifications. At the same time, regularly organizes on-site training courses to update knowledge and improve skills for staff, physicians and nurses.

Along with that, the hospital has paid special attention to investing in the infrastructure system, expanding departments and rooms to promptly meet the increasing demand for medical examination and treatment of the people. The hospital invests in advanced medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment, using many sources of capital, such as: National Tuberculosis Control Program, non-governmental projects, socialized capital and other legal capital sources... to soon meet the need to diversify health care services for the people of the province today. Up to now, the hospital owns many modern equipment such as: 16-slice CT machine, Digital X-ray machine from socialized capital; advanced tuberculosis testing system (Gene - Xpert testing machine, Mgit - Bactex 960 culture machine); invasive and non-invasive ventilator system; flexible endoscope, automatic biochemistry machine...
In particular, the Hospital is a pioneer in the field of tuberculosis and lung disease, implementing emergency artificial blood filtration techniques - considered a major step forward in technical development at the hospital.

With synchronous and drastic solutions, the quality of medical examination and treatment at the Hospital is increasingly improved; meeting the examination and treatment needs of people in and outside the province. The goal of Nghe An Lung Hospital is to build a specialized hospital with a scale of 410 beds, 23 departments, rooms, modern infrastructure and equipment, developing specialized techniques in respiratory medicine; having enough human resources, with over 50% of doctors and pharmacists having postgraduate qualifications; the quality of medical examination and treatment reaching level 4 or higher according to the Ministry of Health's quality assessment criteria; meeting the examination and treatment needs of tuberculosis and lung diseases for people in the province and neighboring provinces; Aiming to develop into a Respiratory Center of the North Central region.

Along with improving the quality and effectiveness of examination and treatment; becoming a prestigious and reliable medical address in people's health care, up to now, the Hospital has met the prerequisites and necessary factors to effectively implement the province's tuberculosis control program on implementing the National Strategy for Tuberculosis Prevention and Control to 2020 and vision to 2030 - basically ending tuberculosis in Vietnam.
However, the current anti-tuberculosis work in our province still faces many difficulties and challenges: The facilities at all levels are still lacking, coordination among medical units is not yet synchronized, inspection and supervision work still has many shortcomings; a part of the people still have inferiority complex and discrimination against tuberculosis, the coordination of Party committees, authorities, departments, branches, unions, and social organizations with the anti-tuberculosis program is not regular; the coordination between public and private medical units in detecting, managing, and treating tuberculosis patients at the grassroots level is still ineffective, leading to the problem of drug-resistant and super-drug-resistant tuberculosis becoming increasingly complicated, making treatment increasingly difficult; screening for people in contact with tuberculosis patients in the community has not been done well; the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic also increases the burden on tuberculosis patients...

Therefore, the work of preventing and combating tuberculosis requires the participation of the entire political system, the Nghe An Health sector is the core force, and Nghe An Lung Hospital is the pioneer. To effectively implement the strategy of preventing and combating tuberculosis in Nghe An, the Hospital has been and is continuing to develop plans and roadmaps for each specific and practical development stage to advise the Department of Health and the Provincial People's Committee to effectively implement the goals and strategies of preventing and combating tuberculosis by 2020 and by 2030, basically eliminating tuberculosis.
