The history of fighting for justice seems to have linked the Vietnamese people with the rest of the world by a magical hyphen, the victory of April 30 and International Labor Day on May 1.

Like other peace-loving nations, May in Vietnam begins with a borderless festival of workers. Turning back the golden pages of the just struggle, it can be said that the modern history of the world was written when workers joined hands together.

They themselves entered into a relentless struggle for a future of equal development, where workers are liberated and respected.

If it were not for justice, if there were no solidarity and courage, there would not have been a strike, rally, and march in Chicago on May 1, 1886, and the slogan "8-hour work day" would probably not have entered the history of human struggle.

May 1st became a source of pride and encouragement for the proletarian movement. It was that immortal fighting spirit that breathed life into all oppressed peoples. The ripple effect of May 1st sparked movements in colonial countries.

It is no coincidence that in Vietnam, on May 1, 1925, workers in Cho Lon, Di An, and Da Nang protested, and then on May 1, 1930, the whole country took to the streets, contributing to the 30-31 revolutionary movement...

And in 1946, President Ho Chi Minh signed a decree declaring May 1st as an International Labor Day... We will never forget the first time International Labor Day was solemnly celebrated in Hanoi, with 200,000 working people attending.

President Ho Chi Minh read the appeal: “Together with the people of the whole country! Together with the working people! May 1st is a common New Year’s Day for all countries in the world. It is a very profound meaning of solidarity.”

More than a century has passed, May 1st has become a symbolic moment of the relentless struggles for peace and justice. Engels once said: "Communism is a reflection of the workers' movement". History has proven that truth.

Entering the 21st century, the world has changed so much, the struggle to protect justice, to move towards a democratic, fair and civilized society is no longer limited to taking to the streets, strikes or protests.

More than ever, history requires workers to be equipped with unyielding courage and unlimited creativity. However, one thing that never changes is that in order to achieve final victory, it is necessary that “the proletariat of the world unite”.

Therefore, the spirit of International Labor Day is immortal. May 1st has been, is and will forever be the holiday of workers and "it is a very profound meaning of solidarity" as President Ho Chi Minh once advised.

The country is at peace, the renovation and integration process is reaping more and more great achievements. The responsibility and mission of the Vietnamese working class is even heavier and more challenging.

Hopefully, May 1st is not only an occasion for us to review history, but it is also a meeting point and starting point for many emulation movements of workers across the country.

Vietnam will forever be a part of the international proletarian and workers' movement, and there certainly will never cease the responsibility to fight for a peaceful and progressive humanity.
