(Baonghean.vn) - Over the past two weeks, the Obstetrics Department of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has continuously received four cases of pregnant women with placenta previa.

On September 29th, pregnant woman LTTH (Nghia Thang commune, Nghia Dan district) was admitted to the Obstetrics Department of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in critical condition. She was experiencing massive bleeding due to the placenta being attached to the anterior surface, with the lower edge of the placenta extending through the internal cervical opening. Patient LTTH had a history of two previous cesarean sections, this time at 7 months of pregnancy.

Immediately after admission, the hospital doctors quickly held a consultation and decided to proceed with a cesarean section. The cesarean section was performed at 9:08 AM on the same day. The surgical team decided to remove the uterus and transfuse 12 units of blood and 4 units of fresh frozen plasma to stabilize the patient's hemodynamic status.

Thanks to diligent efforts and proactive management, the surgery was successful after nearly 3 hours, with both mother and baby safe. The mother is currently being monitored in the Obstetrics Department of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. The baby girl, born weighing 1800 grams, was given oxygen and transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for further treatment. Currently, the baby no longer requires oxygen, is feeding independently, and has good reflexes.

Over the past two weeks, the Obstetrics Department of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has consecutively admitted four cases of pregnant women with placenta previa.

According to Dr. Tran Quang Hanh, Deputy Head of the Obstetrics Department at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, "Patient H was very fortunate to receive timely emergency care and treatment. In cases of placenta previa, bladder invasion, and advanced age like Ms. H's, premature birth and heavy bleeding during childbirth are very dangerous."

Therefore, diagnosis and treatment must be done cautiously, and surgery should only be performed in specialized hospitals with adequate facilities and experienced doctors.

Dr. Tran Quang Hanh also noted that, to minimize risks, women need to be proactive in family planning, avoid abortions, and not overuse cesarean sections to avoid the risk of placenta previa in subsequent pregnancies../.

Placenta accreta is a condition where the placenta is abnormally attached to the uterine muscle layer of the pregnant woman. Depending on the degree of placental invasion, it is classified into three levels: mild, where the placenta is firmly attached and partially invades the uterine muscle; moderate, where the placenta invades deeply into the uterine muscle but not beyond the uterine serosa; and severe, where the placenta penetrates the uterine serosa and invades adjacent organs such as the bladder and intestines.
