Ukraine and Poland tried to provoke a direct clash between Russia and NATO by dropping missiles on the border, said Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN.

"If this meeting had not been scheduled, it would have been convened to discuss the attempts of Ukraine and Poland to provoke a direct clash between Russia and NATO. The completely irresponsible statements of the leaders of these two countries cannot be viewed in any other way," Nebenzya said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Ukraine.

Mr. Nebenzya stressed that Vladimir Zelensky, while blaming the Russian Federation, could not have been unaware that the missile fired by Ukraine had flown to Poland.

“This means that this is not only deliberate disinformation, but also a deliberate attempt to draw NATO, which is waging a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine, into a direct clash with our country,” Nebenzya said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Polish President Andrzej Duda said there was no indication that his country had been deliberately attacked on Tuesday. On November 15, Polish media reported that two rockets had fallen on the village of Przewodów in the Lublin region on the border with Ukraine, killing two people. The Polish Foreign Ministry said the missiles were Russian-made. However, this information was not confirmed in the United States, with US President Joe Biden later announcing that preliminary information refuted the theory that the missiles were Russian.

Mr. Nebenzya also noted that Ukraine's air defense forces "have long had a bad reputation."

“Over the past months, we have regularly seen images of the consequences of Ukrainian air defense systems hitting civilian homes, behind which these systems were hidden in various cities,” he recalled.

"They still try to clumsily blame it on the consequences of precision weapons used by Russia to attack military facilities and important infrastructure, while covering up the fact that if such weapons had really hit those houses, not even a trace would have been left," the diplomat said.

Polish media reported on the evening of November 15 that two missiles had fallen on Polish territory. Warsaw initially said they were Russian-made and was convening a NATO meeting. However, on Wednesday Polish President Andrzej Duda said it was highly likely that the missiles belonged to Ukraine.
