Speaking at the Conference on providing information on human rights work to the press organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in Hanoi on the morning of September 28, Ms. Hoang Thi Thanh Nga, Deputy Director of the Department of International Organizations (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) said that Vietnam became a member of this council for the 2014-2016 term with the highest number of votes among the countries participating in the election at that time (184/192).

Since then, Vietnam has always participated in the Human Rights Council seriously, responsibly, proactively and constructively.

For example, Vietnam has always been responsible in participating in speaking and discussing at hundreds of meetings, building and negotiating resolutions and decisions of the Human Rights Council, contributing to ensuring common values of human rights.

Vietnam is also serious about implementing the UPR (Universal Periodic Review) mechanism, having frank dialogue with countries at the UPR defense session; seriously implementing the accepted recommendations...

Although it was the first time participating in the council, Vietnam also proactively proposed initiatives such as co-authoring with Bangladesh and the Philippines the Resolution on the Impact of Climate Change on Children's Rights (adopted by consensus with more than 110 co-sponsoring countries); organizing an international discussion attracting hundreds of participants at the Human Rights Council...

According to Ms. Nga, Vietnam always upholds the principle of dialogue and cooperation in human rights issues. In many cases, Vietnam acts as an intermediary in negotiations; Vietnam's opinions are listened to.

According to Ms. Nga, participating in the Human Rights Council has made a practical contribution to promoting dialogue and cooperation, enhancing the effectiveness, transparency and balance in the work of the council. In addition, it has strengthened the voice, enhanced the image and position of Vietnam in the international arena; refuted false arguments and information about the human rights situation in Vietnam; promoted issues such as economy, culture, society, rights of vulnerable groups, climate change, etc. /.
