Lieutenant General Do Kim Tuyen said the Ministry of Public Security has requested Interpol to arrest and extradite Vu Dinh Duy to Vietnam.

This morning, at a press conference on the work situation in the first 6 months of the year of the Ministry of Public Security, Lieutenant General Do Kim Tuyen, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Crime Prevention Police, said that the Department of Crime Prevention and Corruption Prevention Police (C46) is urgently investigating the case of intentionally violating state regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences related to the Dinh Vu Polyester Fiber Project (Dinh Vu Fiber).

Vũ Đình Duy, cựu tổng giám đốc PVTex đã trốn đi nước ngoài từ tháng 10/2016

Vu Dinh Duy, former general director of PVTex, fled abroad in October 2016.

Lieutenant General Do Kim Tuyen said that up to this point, C46 has arrested 4 suspects, searched the residences and workplaces of 5 suspects, and seized many documents to serve the investigation.

As for the defendant Vu Dinh Duy, former General Director of Petrochemical and Fiber Joint Stock Company (PVTex), he has not been arrested because he fled before the police investigation agency initiated the prosecution.

"After the Investigation Police Agency issued a special nationwide arrest warrant, it continued to request Interpol to issue an international arrest warrant," Lieutenant General Tuyen said, adding that the Government Inspectorate had transferred the case file to the Ministry of Public Security for investigation.

The Lieutenant General said the Ministry of Public Security has requested Interpol to arrest and extradite Vu Dinh Duy to Vietnam.

The case involving PVTex Company is one of the key cases that the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption directed the General Department of Crime Prevention Police to quickly clarify.

At the time the Government Inspectorate began to announce the inspection results, Vu Dinh Duy had submitted a request for permission from the governing body to go abroad for medical treatment. Despite not having the consent of the governing body, the Vietnam Chemical Group, Duy did not go to work and fled.

Vu Dinh Duy was the former General Director of PVTex, a member of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group. During the period of managing the enterprise implementing the Dinh Vu fiber project, Duy and a number of related people committed many violations, causing the project (with a total investment of more than 500 million USD) to operate ineffectively, causing great losses.

The Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency has initiated a case and issued decisions to prosecute five defendants, including Vu Dinh Duy, for the crime of "Intentionally violating state regulations on economic management causing serious consequences", as stipulated in Article 165 of the Penal Code.
