For retirees, social welfare beneficiaries, and those with revolutionary contributions, salaries still need to increase according to the roadmap from July 1.

On the afternoon of June 15, at the National Assembly's socio-economic discussion session, National Assembly delegate Dinh Van Nha (Phu Yen delegation) said that the Government's proposal to not increase the basic salary according to the National Assembly's Resolution this year is not really suitable.

National Assembly Delegate Dinh Van Nha, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Finance and Budget Committee, said that for all of us, whether high-income or low-income, every time we hear about salary increases, especially when the time for salary increases is coming, everyone is happy. It can be said that many people will be sad if the State has not increased the basic salary.

“We understand that pensioners, not to mention social welfare beneficiaries, are low-income earners in society. Therefore, we should divide them into two groups: the first group, for retirees, social welfare beneficiaries, and those with revolutionary contributions, still needs to increase their salaries according to the roadmap from July 1, according to the National Assembly Resolution. In the case of retirees, if the Government does not calculate enough balanced funds, I propose to increase pensions for those who retired from 1995 and before, because this is a group of people with very low incomes,” said Delegate Nha.

For civil servants and public employees who are currently working, the Phu Yen delegation agreed with the Government that there will be no salary increase for now. However, if by October 2020, economic growth reaches scenario 1, meaning growth of 4.9% or more, the Government should consider increasing salaries from January 1, 2021.

Previously, the Government had proposed that the National Assembly consider not increasing the basic salary for officials, civil servants, public employees, armed forces and pensions from July 1, 2020 in order to share difficulties with workers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and have more resources for urgent goals. The Politburo also concluded on this issue, accordingly, not increasing salaries from July 1, 2020./.
