In an interview on September 13, former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said it was time for the US to change the way it elects its president and called for the abolition of the Electoral College.

"I think the electoral college should be abolished. I would like to see us go beyond that," Hillary Clinton told CNN's Anderson Cooper.

In the 2016 US Presidential election, Mrs. Hillary won more popular votes than her opponent Donald Trump, but Mr. Trump had more electoral votes. Mr. Trump won 304 electoral votes and was elected President while Mrs. Hillary only won 227 electoral votes.

In recent years, there have been complaints that the US presidential election system is perhaps unfair, because it gives some votes more weight than others. Under US law, each state has a certain number of electors, based on its population. So a populous state like California would have 55 electoral votes, while a smaller state like North Dakota would have just three.

On September 12, Mrs. Hillary's new book titled "What Happened" hit the shelves. The book tries to explain why she lost the presidential election.

On the evening of September 13, President Trump wrote on Twitter: "Hillary Clinton blames everyone and everything but herself for her election defeat. Hillary lost the debate and lost her way."
