But there are benefits of walking that surprise us, maybe you have never heard of or do not know, you should also know to apply in your daily life.
1. Walking helps counteract the effects of genes that promote weight gain
Harvard researchers looked at 32 obesity-promoting genes in more than 12,000 people to determine how much these genes actually contributed to body weight. They then found that among study participants who walked briskly for about an hour a day, the effects of these weight-gaining genes were cut in half.
2. Walking helps control cravings
A study from the University of Exeter found that a 15-minute walk can curb chocolate cravings and even reduce the amount of chocolate you eat in stressful situations. New research confirms that walking can reduce cravings and intake of a range of sugary snacks.
3. Walking reduces the risk of developing breast cancer
An American Cancer Society study that focused on walking found that women who walked seven or more hours a week had a 14 percent lower risk of breast cancer than those who walked three hours or less a week. And walking provided this protection even for women who had breast cancer risk factors, such as obesity or use of supplemental hormones.
4. Walking helps relieve joint pain
Several studies have found that walking reduces pain associated with arthritis, and walking 5-6 miles a week can even prevent arthritis from developing. Walking protects the joints, especially the knees and hips, which are prone to osteoarthritis.
5. Walking boosts immune function
Walking can help protect you from colds and flu. A study of 1,000 men and women found that those who walked at least 20 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week, had 43% fewer sick days than those who walked once a week or less. And if they did get sick, the illness lasted less time and the symptoms were milder.
It is clear that walking brings many health benefits. Walking regularly every day, eating properly, resting properly, and working properly will help us have a better quality of life.
