African swine fever outbreak: Ended in Nghi Loc, recurred in Tan Ky

(Baonghean.vn) - After more than 3 months of efforts to prevent and control the epidemic, Nghi Loc district has now been completely free of the epidemic. Meanwhile, in Tan Ky, on August 7, African swine fever recurred.

Nghi Loc Districthas just issued Decision No. 2293/QD.UBND on declaring the end of African swine fever in Nghi Truong commune. This is the 14th commune and also the last unit in the district to date where the disease has occurred.

Previously, from April 29 to July 6, African swine fever broke out in 14/30 communes and towns of Nghi Loc district. Some communes had many outbreaks such as Nghi Dien with 10 outbreaks, Nghi Hoa with 9 outbreaks. The whole district had 225 pigs, with a total weight of nearly 12 tons, destroyed due to the epidemic.

During the epidemic, the District People's Committee, the People's Committees of communes and towns supported households with African swine fever with over 70 tons of lime powder; the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station provided localities with nearly 1,500 liters of chemicals for cleaning, disinfection and sterilization.

After declaring the end of the epidemic, Nghi Loc District People's Committee assigned the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station to send technical staff to continue monitoring pig herds in communes and towns where African swine fever had occurred, and to monitor pig herds in threatened areas to prevent new outbreaks and recurrence of old outbreaks. At the same time, the District People's Committee also implemented a plan to carry out sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization of the livestock environment to prevent and control the 4th outbreak of African swine fever in 2019 in the district.

Currently, the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station has distributed 1,150 liters of chemicals to communes and towns to organize cleaning, disinfection and sterilization according to plan.

Meanwhile,in Tan KyAfter 20 days of announcing the end of the epidemic in the whole district, on August 7, African swine fever recurred.at Mr. Le Xuan Linh's household in Phuc Thanh hamlet, Nghia Phuc commune, with a total herd of 45 pigs, weighing 2,034 kg.

On the morning of August 7, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Quoc Viet district, together with leaders of the district's Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station, the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the local Party Committee and government of Nghia Phuc commune directly visited households to mobilize them to destroy all the pigs according to the correct procedures. At the same time, disinfectants were sprayed at the epidemic site, lime was sprinkled at households raising pigs, and epidemic control checkpoints were set up./.
