Kremlin: Russia has never had close cooperation with the US on the Syria issue

There has never been particularly close cooperation between Russia and the United States on Syria, but there are still many channels of coordination, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Thursday.

"There has never been close cooperation between Russia and the United States on the Syrian issue. So there is nothing to break up in this case. The information exchange channel still exists, and we hope that this contact will continue its work," Peskov said.

"We need to have the political will to cooperate in resolving the situation in Syria. There is no such cooperation now," Peskov replied to a request to clarify the problems that need to be overcome in the joint work of the Russian Federation and the United States.

Asked to comment on US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's statement about the need for US-Russia cooperation on common issues, Peskov said he would refer the question to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
