Suspend a series of customs officers involved in the smuggling of 300 tons of goods

On the evening of December 25, the General Department of Customs issued information about a smuggling case that occurred at Bac Phong Sinh border gate, Quang Ninh.

On December 22, 2020, while waiting for the official conclusion of the competent authorities, the Quang Ninh Provincial Customs Department issued a decision to temporarily suspend 6 civil servants (including: Head of Bac Phong Sinh Customs Branch, Deputy Head of Bac Phong Sinh Customs Branch, Head of the Customs Operation Team of Bac Phong Sinh Customs Branch and 3 civil servants) for 15 days to review their responsibilities and serve the investigation and handling of the competent authorities.
Previously, on December 18, 2020, the Investigation Police Agency (Ministry of Public Security) presided over and coordinated with professional units of the Ministry of Public Security and Quang Ninh Provincial Police to successfully destroylinesmuggling, illegal transportation of goods across the border of Quang Ninh province.
This is an organized smuggling ring, illegally transporting goods across the border on an especially large and complex scale, involving many subjects in all provinces and cities across the country, led by Dao Van Chap.
Through initial investigation, the Investigation Agency discovered more than 30 subjects and seized more than 300 tons of goods. Simultaneously searching warehouses in Hung Yen, Hanoi... of the subjects, seized more than 200 tons of goods, 20 container trucks and trucks of various types.
The types of goods illegally traded and transported by these subjects are very diverse, most of which are clothes, cosmetics, auto and motorbike parts, electronics, etc. On average, each day, these subjects declare to transport and trade about 200 tons of various goods, worth tens of billions of VND.
Based on the investigation results and collected evidence, on December 22, 2020, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency initiated a case, prosecuted 10 defendants for the crime of Smuggling under the provisions of Clause 4, Article 188 of the 2015 Penal Code, issued a Search Warrant and an Arrest Warrant to temporarily detain the defendants.
