In the 1960s, when the Vietnamese people were concentrating their efforts on simultaneously carrying out two strategic tasks: building socialism in the North and fighting to liberate the South; on the other side of the world, the Cuban people were also facing the sabotage plots and acts of sabotage by imperialist forces.
On December 2, 1960, the young government led by the late leader Fidel made Cuba the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish full diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

The similarities in the process of building and defending the country, the aspirations and revolutionary ideals, and the heroic tradition of independence, freedom, sovereignty and self-determination of the two nations have created the opportunity and solid foundation for the special relationship between Vietnam and Cuba.
The friendly, loyal and pure relationship, continued and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh, leader Fidel and generations of leaders and people of the two countries, has become a valuable asset for the cause of protecting and building socialism in each country.
Over the past 60 years, since the two countries established diplomatic relations, the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba has been increasingly strengthened and developed. The two peoples of Vietnam and Cuba have always stood side by side in the struggle for independence and freedom as well as in the cause of building and defending the socialist Fatherland in each country.
