What's special about Ford EcoSport's new rival?

Volkswagen Cross Polo arrived in Ho Chi Minh City in early March. The urban car has a higher chassis than the Polo hatchback, so the Cross Polo can be considered a hatchback crossover, similar to the Hyundai i20 Active. The car is imported from India and sells for 725 million.

Not exactly a crossover, but Volkswagen places the Cross Polo in the B segment with high-chassis rivals like the EcoSport, Vitara or Trax. The price is higher than the EcoSport but lower than the Trax and Vitara.

The car has a simple, neutral design while its competitors have sleek, modern lines. Halogen headlights, strong metal front and rear bumpers. The car is 3,987 mm long, 1,698 mm wide, and 1,483 mm high. 16-inch wheels.

The Cross Polo interior is equipped with an infotainment system with a 6.5-inch display screen. The car supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, AUX-IN and USB connections. The three-spoke steering wheel integrates function control keys. The rear camera system helps control parking distance in narrow spaces.

Volkswagen currently distributes only one red exterior version in Vietnam. The car is equipped with a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder engine, 105 horsepower, maximum torque of 153 Nm. 6-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive.

With the trend of rejuvenating customers in the small car segment, Volkswagen Cross Polo needs a lot of time to convince Vietnamese customers despite the advantage of the German brand. The overall design feels sturdy but not youthful enough.

In the small urban car segment, only the domestically assembled Ford EcoSport. Ford's model has many versions to choose from with competitive prices and is leading in sales.
