Traveling to Singapore, don't be careless or you will be fined or imprisoned.
Singapore is one of the most civilized countries in the world. Visitors to Singapore can be fined or even imprisoned for just a little "carelessness" or not understanding the strict regulations here.
Please take note of some of the strict regulations below in Singapore to avoid being fined or imprisoned when traveling in this country.
Street performance without a license
Traveling artists and performers often like to busk along the streets to “make a living”. However, remember that performing on the streets in Singapore without a permit from the National Arts Council can result in a fine of up to $20,000 if you are caught. Performances are strictly regulated in this country, with permits having to be renewed annually and can only be performed in specific locations.
Obscene acts
Singapore's laws prohibit obscenity. Speaking, singing or acting in a way that is deemed obscene can result in a fine or up to three months in prison.
Transporting durian in public transport
Due to its distinctive scent, durians are not allowed on public transport in Singapore. Failure to do so will result in a fine of $500.
Littering
To maintain its image as a clean and green city, Singapore has imposed hefty fines ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 for anyone who litters on the streets. Another penalty is that you may have to do community service to make up for your bad actions.
Feed the pigeons
Singapore has also banned tourists from feeding pigeons since 1973 due to fears of spreading disease. Those caught violating this rule face fines of up to $500.
