(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, people rarely go to temples and pagodas, causing many chrysanthemum gardens in Yen Thanh to be unsold and rotten in the fields.

Mr. Nguyen Bich Kien, the owner of a flower growing household in Dong Ban hamlet, Kim Thanh commune, Yen Thanh said: His family grows 4 sao of chrysanthemums, which sell very well every year, each sao of flowers harvested is worth as much as 3 sao of rice.

But due to the impact of the Covid-19 acute respiratory infection, this year people have less access to festivals and pagodas, causing the entire flower field to go unsold. Calculating the cost of care, seeds, and electricity for 4 sao of flowers, Mr. Kien's family lost nearly 40 million VND.

Also in Quang Thanh commune, the flowers are blooming brightly yellow all over the field, but the flower growers are not interested in harvesting. Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham in Hamlet 6, Quang Thanh commune shared: Growing 2 sao of chrysanthemums is a lot of work, it takes more than 3 months of care, but it is very difficult to sell, so we have to let the flowers wilt in the field. Another reason is that the chrysanthemum market has been difficult to sell for the past few years, we have proactively transported them to Vinh City for consumption but they are still unsold.

It is known that at this time in Quang Thanh commune, there are 3 households growing flowers with an area of 10 sao. Mr. Hoang Van Bay - Chairman of Quang Thanh commune People's Committee said: Some highland areas were converted to flower growing by the commune since 2015. Previously, income from growing flowers was 3 times higher than that from growing rice.

However, after Tet, the Covid-19 epidemic caused most of the temple and pagoda festivals to be postponed, so people who grow chrysanthemums could not sell them. Many flower gardens were not harvested and left to rot in the fields.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Thanh district said: In the district, there are about more than 5 hectares of flowers grown in the communes: Tan Thanh, Quang Thanh, Kim Thanh, and the town. Given the damage to flower growers, we will review and make statistics. However, the district still does not have a mechanism or policy to support damage to flower farmers.

Currently, there is almost no solution for consuming the above mentioned flowers and farmers have to abandon the whole crop to plant new crops.
