After the scandal was exposed, the president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) Somyot Poompanmoung admitted that there was match-fixing in the match of U22 Thailand at the 29th SEA Games, specifically the match against U22 Cambodia, and apologized to Thai fans. However, the head of Thai football affirmed that the players were not involved in the corruption.
In addition, the Thai League - the country's top league - also has many instabilities. "Officials have admitted that match-fixing exists in the Thai League. It is time for us to eradicate the wrongdoings of Thai football. Thank you to the Royal Thai Police for doing this." This official also hesitantly shared, "We have known about match-fixing in Thai football for a long time, but there has never been any drastic effort to prevent it until now."
According to FAT, the upcoming call-ups may be some foreign players. They are involved in the match-fixing of 4 matches in the 2017 Thai National Championship. Thai law stipulates that this negative behavior must face a prison sentence of 5-10 years depending on the level in addition to a fine of 350-415 million VND.
