Nearly 250 houses in Nghe An had their roofs blown off after a 15-minute tornado.
(Baonghean.vn) - After only 15 minutes, a tornado accompanied by hail caused the roofs of 249 houses in Chau Thon commune to be blown off, many of which only had the frames left.
On the morning of April 22, Mr. Vi Van Chin - Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Thon commune (Que Phong district) said that the commune had just finished counting the damage after the tornado and hail that occurred in this locality late yesterday afternoon.

According to the authorities, all 13 villages in the commune were damaged by the tornado. Of these, 249 houses had their roofs blown off, of which 8 were blown away, leaving only the frames. “More than 15 hectares of crops were damaged, including 9 hectares of rice that were about to be harvested and felled,” said Mr. Chin.
In addition, some motorbikes and cars of local people were also crushed by fallen trees, causing serious damage. The tornado also seriously injured a local person. "This person was riding a motorbike on the road when a tree branch hit him, and is now being treated at Que Phong General Hospital," said the Chairman of Chau Thon commune, estimating that the total damage caused by this tornado is estimated to be up to billions of dong.

Currently, local authorities are still trying to overcome the consequences, clean up roads and support people to repair damaged houses.
Previously, at around 5pm on April 21, Chau Thon commune experienced a hailstorm and tornado that lasted for more than 15 minutes. The falling hailstones were about 1cm in diameter. This is said to be the largest tornado and hailstorm ever recorded in this commune.
