The price of raw coffee has more than tripled in the past two years, putting enormous pressure on coffee shops. Shops are forced to recalculate their selling prices to maintain profits while still ensuring customer retention. Currently, many coffee shops in Ho Chi Minh City have begun to adjust their selling prices to adapt to the situation.

A cup of black iced coffee now costs 22,000 VND, up 10% from a month ago. Many other coffee-related drinks have also increased in price by 10-20% in many places. Price increases are inevitable when the cost of raw materials accounts for about 20-35% of a cup of coffee.

However, according to statistics, about 60% of customers are sensitive to price increases. This makes coffee shops have to consider many options to stabilize selling prices, such as cutting operating costs or accepting lower profits to retain customers.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market also fluctuate:

Robusta Coffee (London):

Delivery in May 2025: Down 37 USD/ton, to 5,524 USD/ton.

Delivery in July 2025: Down 45 USD/ton, to 5,479 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

May 2025 delivery: Down 20.85 cents/lb, to 389.1 cents/lb.

July 2025 delivery: Down 19.85 cents/lb, to 379.7 cents/lb.

World coffee prices have shown signs of a sharp decline in line with world gold prices. This continues to support the view that "coffee price movements are unpredictable and trends are difficult to predict" by the big coffee industry players in recent times.

According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA), from October 2024 to now, Vietnam has exported 607,000 tons of coffee. This figure has not yet reached 50% of production output, meaning that Vietnam still has 7 months to consume the old crop of coffee.

Currently, Vietnam has a large supply advantage in the world market, but this period only lasts until the end of May 2025. After that time, the supply from Brazil will begin to supplement the global market. As the world's number 1 coffee exporter, Brazil is not only the leader in Arabica coffee but also second in Robusta coffee, just behind Vietnam.
