At 10:15 a.m. the same day, when she saw Ms. N. being taken home by her friend, Hong quickly followed. When she reached neighborhood 3, Binh Tho ward, she rushed forward and grabbed Ms. N.'s shirt, causing her to fall. Hong then rushed forward and beat and cursed her. Not yet satisfied, she poured 10 liters of paint on Ms. N.'s head before leaving.
After being assaulted, Ms. N. went to the police station to report the incident. The injury assessment results showed that Ms. N. suffered 8% injury.
At the trial on February 25, Hong admitted to committing the crime as charged in the indictment. Justifying his crime, Hong said that he was angry that Ms. N. knew that her husband had a wife and children but still brought her sister to matchmake, causing Hong's family to fall apart. The defendant said that after the incident, the couple is now divorced.
Hong asked the panel of judges to consider giving the defendant a suspended sentence so that he could return home to take care of his three children because after the divorce, the defendant had to raise the children alone.
Considering that the defendant’s actions have violated the health of citizens protected by law, causing negative impacts on social order. However, the defendant has repented, committed the crime for the first time and has compensated for the consequences. In addition, the defendant is in difficult circumstances, raising 3 small children alone.
Therefore, after consideration, the panel of judges partially accepted the defendant's appeal, changing the sentence from 6 months in prison to 6 months in prison with a suspended sentence.
