Extending the criminal detention of Trinh Xuan Thanh for investigation

The prosecution agency decided to extend the criminal detention period for Trinh Xuan Thanh.

The Supreme People's Procuracy has decided to extend the criminal detention of Trinh Xuan Thanh to serve the investigation. It is known that Mr. Thanh's health is stable.

Trinh Xuan Thanh appeared when he returned home to surrender.

Previously, on the afternoon of July 31, the Ministry of Public Security announced that suspect Trinh Xuan Thanh had surrendered to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Security Investigation Agency (Ministry of Public Security) after nearly a year of being wanted.

In September 2016, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency prosecuted and issued an order to temporarily detain Thanh for intentionally violating State regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences.

According to the conclusion of the Central Inspection Committee, Trinh Xuan Thanh and a group of key officials of PVC were irresponsible, lax in leadership, management, inspection, supervision, and violated state regulations on economic management, causing a loss of nearly 3,300 billion VND (2011-2013 period).

In an interview on Vietnam Television, Mr. Thanh said he decided to surrender to face the truth, hoping to receive leniency from the Party, State and law.
