Pig prices today, April 23, remained stable across the board and recorded a peak of 55,000 VND/kg.
In the Northern region, the price of live pigs today did not record any new fluctuations and fluctuated between 52,000 - 55,000 VND/kg. Accordingly, Thai Binh province continued to purchase at the highest price in the region at 55,000 VND/kg. Lower by one price, traders in Hung Yen are purchasing live pigs at 54,000 VND/kg. Live pigs in localities including Bac Giang, Vinh Phuc and Hanoi were purchased at 53,000 VND/kg. The lowest price in the region of 52,000 VND/kg was recorded in a series of localities including Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Tuyen Quang.

Following the same market trend as the Northern region, in the Central Highlands region, the price of live pigs today did not record any fluctuations compared to the previous day and fluctuated between 52,000 - 55,000 VND/kg. In particular, the highest price in the region of 55,000 VND/kg was recorded in the three provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Lam Dong. Lower by one price, in Binh Dinh, the purchase price of live pigs was maintained at 54,000 VND/kg. In Nghe An, traders are purchasing live pigs at 53,000 VND/kg. Other localities including Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Khanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan are purchasing live pigs at 52,000 VND/kg - the lowest in the region.
In the Southern region, the price of live pigs today is quiet and fluctuates between 51,000 - 55,000 VND/kg. In which, the highest price in the region of 55,000 VND/kg was recorded in Long An, Dong Thap, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre. One price lower, Vung Tau is currently recording a price of 54,000 VND/kg. The lowest price in the region of 51,000 VND/kg was recorded in Soc Trang. A series of localities including Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, An Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Kien Giang, Tra Vinh also recorded a price of live pigs of 52,000 VND/kg. The remaining localities in the region recorded a price of 53,000 VND/kg.
In general, over the past week, the price of live pigs has fluctuated in an upward trend across the board. Localities have recorded prices exceeding VND50,000/kg. On April 23, the average price of live pigs in the North stood at VND52,230/kg; in the Central Highlands - Central region stood at VND52,640/kg and in the South stood at VND53,680/kg. The upward trend was also predicted earlier. However, with the current price, farmers still face the risk of losses due to being below cost.
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, imports of animal feed and raw materials to Vietnam in March 2023 increased by 12.9% compared to February 2023 and increased by 0.6% compared to March 2022, reaching 415.3 million USD. In the first quarter of 2023, total imports of this group of goods reached nearly 1.16 billion USD, an increase of 11.5% compared to the first quarter of 2022.
* Domestic coffee prices increased by 100 VND/kg
Domestic coffee prices today, April 23, in the Central Highlands provinces increased by 100 VND/kg. Specifically, the price of green coffee beans (coffee beans, fresh coffee beans) in Lam Dong province is currently purchased in districts such as Bao Loc, Di Linh, Lam Ha at 50,400 - 50,500 VND/kg. Coffee prices in Gia Lai, Kon Tum and Dak Nong provinces are at 50,900 VND/kg.

For world coffee prices, the London and New York exchanges returned to an opposite state.
At the end of the latest trading session, Robusta coffee prices on the London floor reversed to increase. The May spot price increased by 23 USD, to 2,465 USD/ton, and the July delivery price increased by 8 USD, to 2,382 USD/ton, both significant increases. Trading volume was at an average level.
In contrast, Arabica coffee prices on the New York floor fell for the third consecutive session. The July spot futures fell another 2.45 cents to 191.45 cents/lb and the September futures fell another 2.65 cents to 188.60 cents/lb, both significant declines. Trading volume was average.
According to the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), as of April 17, Brazil has accelerated the sales of new crop coffee to 23% of potential output, approximately the average level of recent years with 24% of expected output.
Vietnam Customs reported that coffee exports in the first half of April 2023 reached 81,348 tons (equivalent to 1.355 million bags). As a result, coffee exports in the first 3.5 months of the year totaled 634,023 tons, down 4.32% over the same period last year.
* World market declines, SJC gold rises back to 67 million VND mark

* Steel prices fall, steel imports from China increase
Steel prices today, April 23, recorded a sharp drop in steel prices on the trading floor. Steel imports from China increased sharply by 48% over the same period.
Today's steel futures price for October 2023 delivery on the Shanghai Futures Exchange fell sharply by 100 yuan to 3,753 yuan/ton. The steel futures price for January 2024 delivery fell by 83 yuan to 3,693 yuan/ton.
According to the General Department of Customs, the import volume of iron and steel of all kinds in March 2023 reached 1.3 million tons, an increase of 55% compared to the previous month. This is the highest import volume in a month since April 2021.

Notably, imports of all kinds of iron and steel from China in the first quarter of 2023 increased sharply while decreasing in other major markets.
Specifically, iron and steel imports from China reached 1.45 million tons, up nearly 48% over the same period. Meanwhile, Vietnam imported 438,000 tons of this item from Japan, down 7%, and 246,000 tons from South Korea, down more than 27%.
By the end of the first quarter of 2023, the country's import volume of all kinds of iron and steel reached more than 2.7 million tons with a value of nearly 2.3 billion USD.
Domestically, steel prices today, April 23, recorded many brands announcing price reductions for construction steel with reductions ranging from 130,000 - 1.12 million VND/ton. This is the third consecutive reduction since April 8, after domestic steel has had consecutive increases since the beginning of the year.
