In general, the price of live pigs across the country is on the rise and is forecast to reach a new peak next week. Currently, the price of live pigs in all three regions fluctuates from 63,000 - 68,000 VND/kg.

On December 21, authorities of Dinh Quan district, Dong Nai province, inspected an animal slaughterhouse in Phu Cuong commune. At the scene, the task force discovered a truck carrying a slaughtered pig (about 80 kg) and a three-wheeled vehicle transporting 19 pigs to the slaughterhouse. Of these, 16 were dead pigs (about 500 kg) and 3 were alive pigs (about 70 kg). All of these pigs did not have a slaughter control mark from the veterinary agency.

In addition, the slaughter area also contained a styrofoam box containing 3 dead pigs (80 kg), many other styrofoam boxes containing 70 kg of slaughtered pork and 70 kg of pig organs in barrels. The owner of the facility could not present a slaughter license, veterinary hygiene certificate, invoices or documents proving the origin.

When inspecting the truck driver’s home, authorities discovered more Styrofoam boxes and a refrigerator containing more than 2 tons of pork. In particular, in another cold storage facility owned by this person, authorities found nearly 4 tons of pre-processed pork stored in many freezers and a refrigerated container.

This incident raises concerns about violations in pork slaughtering, trading and food safety. Authorities continue to investigate to clarify and handle violations.
