In other provinces, live pig prices range from 59,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.
Pig price in the Southern region
In the Southern region, the price of live pigs also remained stable compared to yesterday, fluctuating between 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg.
Specifically, Can Tho and Dong Thap provinces have the highest purchase price, 62,000 VND/kg.
On the contrary, the provinces of Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, An Giang and Bac Lieu recorded the lowest price, 60,000 VND/kg.
Other localities have live pig price of about 61,000 VND/kg.

In general, today's live pig prices in all three regions are stable, with prices ranging from 58,000 - 64,000 VND/kg nationwide.
In some markets, pork prices have not changed much. Popular items such as spare ribs and ribless pork belly cost around 160,000 - 170,000 VND/kg, while regular pork belly costs 140,000 VND/kg.
At Hoc Mon wholesale market, the output of pork pieces brought in was about 3,200, including 254 small pigs. The prices of pork here fluctuate as follows: baby back ribs 120,000 VND/kg, pork chops 75,000 VND/kg, lean pork 110,000 VND/kg.
According to Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of Dong Nai Livestock Association, the reappearance of small pigs is due to the complicated developments of African swine fever. Therefore, the total pig herd in many localities, not only Dong Nai, has decreased.
Although the northern provinces were affected by the storm, pig farmers predicted that the price of live pigs would increase to 70,000 VND/kg, but in reality, the price was below 60,000 VND/kg. The reason is that farms in areas not affected by the storm but have suffered from serious disease, forcing under-aged pigs to be sold to the market early.
Due to African swine fever, many farmers have had to sell their pigs at low prices, sometimes accepting losses to minimize losses. The price of live pigs gradually decreases according to weight. Specifically:
Pigs reaching ideal weight (95kg - 1.3 quintals): 60,000 VND/kg.
Pigs under 90kg: 45,000 VND/kg.
Pigs under 70kg: 30,000 VND/kg.
Pigs under 50kg: only 17,000 VND/kg.
Currently, there is no effective vaccine to prevent the disease, so farmers have to sell young pigs to avoid further losses.
According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the pig farming industry maintained growth in the third quarter. However, the consequences of storm No. 3 in the North and African swine fever caused great damage, especially in damaged barns and pigs prepared for Tet.
Currently, pig production in small-scale households has decreased to about 35%-40%, while professional households and production farms account for 60%-65%.
The Department of Animal Health recommends that small-scale livestock farmers in epidemic areas should not immediately re-raise their herds, because the pathogen is still latent and the risk of damage is high.
