In the first 8 months of 2024, Vietnam has basically controlled the epidemic. Policies to tighten imports and prevent smuggling have been implemented, while exports have been promoted. Livestock product prices have increased higher than production costs, encouraging herd restoration.
Vietnam's total pig herd is expected to increase by 2.2% compared to 2023, showing the industry's steady growth. The pig farming industry is gradually shifting from small-scale to large-scale, concentrated and commercial.
However, the industry still faces many challenges such as epidemics, climate change, market fluctuations, and dependence on animal feed ingredients. Antibiotic resistance and environmental management are urgent issues that need to be addressed in the Vietnamese livestock industry.
