Rice prices today December 13, 2024: Prices of all types of rice slightly decreased by 100 - 150 VND/kg. Market volume is low, prices of warehouses slightly decreased, fresh rice prices remain high.

Domestic rice price

Regarding rice, the current price of fresh rice remains high, but the demand for buying is quite limited. According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the price of IR 50404 rice (fresh) ranges from 7,800 to 8,000 VND/kg, while OM 5451 rice is priced from 8,600 to 8,800 VND/kg. Other types of rice such as OM 380, OM 18 (fresh), Dai Thom 8, Nang Hoa 9, and Nhat rice are all priced from 7,200 to 9,400 VND/kg.

In many localities, rice transactions are still slow, demand is decreasing, prices remain high. In Soc Trang, rice transactions are also very weak, prices show signs of decreasing and buyers are absent. In Kien Giang, rice transactions are poor, many buyers have stopped buying and prices also tend to go down.

In An Giang, the demand for Autumn-Winter rice is quite limited, traders mainly buy rice that has been deposited, and the price of rice remains stable at a high level. In Long An, farmers offer a lot of Autumn-Winter rice, but transactions are few because prices remain high. In Bac Lieu, new rice transactions are also quite slow, with most buyers only buying rice that has been deposited.

Regarding rice, the price of IR 504 raw rice has decreased slightly by VND 150/kg, currently fluctuating from VND 10,100 to VND 10,200/kg, while IR 504 finished rice has decreased by VND 100/kg, to VND 12,200 to VND 12,400/kg. In localities, the amount of rice arriving is low, the purchasing warehouse is even, but the price has decreased slightly compared to yesterday. In Lap Vo (Dong Thap), the purchasing warehouse is weak and the price has decreased slightly, while in Sa Dec (Dong Thap), the amount of rice arriving is low and the price of raw rice has decreased.

At Sa Dec market, the market warehouse buys all types of fragrant rice, but the prices of these types of rice have decreased slightly. At An Cu (Cai Be, Tien Giang), the price of rice has also decreased slightly due to weak rice sources and little good rice.

At retail markets, rice prices have barely changed compared to yesterday. Regular rice is priced between VND17,000 and VND18,000 per kilogram, while Nang Nhen rice is listed at the highest price of VND28,000 per kilogram. Fragrant rice varieties such as Jasmine are priced between VND17,000 and VND18,000 per kilogram, Nang Hoa at VND21,500 per kilogram, and Japanese rice at VND22,500 per kilogram.

For by-products, prices range from VND5,900 to VND9,100 per kg. Fragrant rice bran costs from VND9,000 to VND9,100 per kg, while dried bran costs from VND5,900 to VND6,000 per kg.

Export rice price

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s rice export prices continued to decline slightly. According to information from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 5% standard rice is currently priced at $509 per ton, 25% broken rice at $477 per ton, and 100% broken rice at $405 per ton.

On December 12, a working delegation led by Cuban Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Ydael Jesús Pézez Brito, visited rice production and trading activities of a number of enterprises in Can Tho City.

This is part of the implementation of the cooperation agreement between the two countries, established during General Secretary To Lam's high-level visit to Cuba.

Under the agreement, Vietnam pledged to support Cuba in developing rice and other crops to ensure food security. At the same time, Vietnamese enterprises in the rice business are encouraged to invest and promote food production in Cuba, contributing to expanding cooperation between the two countries.

During the 2025-2027 period, Vietnam plans to support Cuba in developing 15,000 to 20,000 hectares of rice cultivation. In 2024 alone, the plan aims to produce the first 500 hectares of rice, aiming for 5,000 hectares by the end of 2025. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Vietnam emphasized the desire for Vietnamese enterprises to pay attention and develop in Cuba.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development plans to organize working groups to invite businesses to learn about production conditions, markets and development opportunities in Cuba. This is an important step in promoting agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
