Pretending to be a young woman, 10 times defrauded her 'online lover' of money

By creating a fake Facebook account and posting a profile picture of a pretty girl, a young man tricked a man working in Singapore into falling in love and received nearly 300 million VND.

On February 23, Ha Tinh police said they had just arrested Dang Ngoc Duoc (30 years old, residing in Son Thuy commune, Huong Son district) to investigate the crime of Fraudulent appropriation of property.

At the end of 2016, Duoc created a Facebook page with the name of a girl, with an eye-catching profile picture, so Mr. Tam (who is currently working in Singapore) became friends with her. Duoc chatted, impersonated a female voice to talk to this man and quickly won his affection.

After a short time of confiding, Duoc accepted his love and promised to marry him after Tam returned home, together they would complete the procedures to start a business in Singapore. Believing him, Tam sent gifts and money from abroad to his "lover" many times when Duoc asked.

In early February, Duoc texted Mr. Tam confessing that he had dressed as a woman, then cut off contact. After receiving the victim’s report, Ha Tinh province police began investigating.

It was reported that he had tricked Mr. Tam into transferring money into his account 10 times, totaling nearly 300 million VND. The misappropriated assets were used for personal expenses./.
