Pepper prices are currently being affected by both price support factors and price reduction pressure. One of the reasons for the downward trend in prices is the shift in investment capital flows.
Many traders have sold off their pepper stocks to switch to coffee trading, after the commodity fluctuated strongly and attracted attention. That created a lot of selling pressure in the market, making it difficult for pepper prices to maintain the previous upward momentum.
In addition, although the total pepper output may decrease, the Indonesian market is still preparing for new supplies as the harvest enters its peak period in Lampung and South Sumatra. Increased supply in the short term may put further pressure on prices.
Domestically, pepper exports continued to record positive price movements. According to data from the Customs Department, in the first 15 days of September 2025, Vietnam exported 9,720 tons of pepper, worth 63.7 million USD. Compared to the same period last year, this figure increased by 28.5% in volume and 35.1% in value.
In total, from the beginning of the year to mid-September, the total export volume reached 175,818 tons with a value of nearly 1.2 billion USD. Compared to the same period last year, the export volume decreased by 8.1% but the value increased by 28.7%. The volume was the lowest since 2018 but the turnover reached the highest in the same period ever.
In the next 6 to 12 months, pepper price forecasts depend largely on the replanting of pepper gardens, the application of sustainable farming methods as well as the ability to meet international standards. If Vietnam maintains its quality advantage and continues to expand its export market, pepper has every opportunity to maintain its strategic role with stable prices at a high level.
