Giá tiêu hôm nay 20/3/2025: Tây Nguyên giảm nhẹ

The 2025 pepper harvest in Vietnam began right after the Lunar New Year and lasted until March - April due to the impact of drought. Many pepper gardens saw a 20 - 40% reduction in productivity compared to the previous year, significantly reducing supply. Meanwhile, demand from major markets such as the US, EU and China remained high, contributing to a sharp increase in pepper prices.

In particular, in March 2025, the Vietnam Pepper and Spices International Conference - VIPO 2025 attracted great attention from foreign enterprises. Many important cooperation agreements between Vietnam, China and the US were signed, opening up great opportunities for the domestic spice industry.

Major markets such as the US, Europe and the Middle East are increasing pepper imports for consumption and food processing. This creates favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to boost purchases to meet export orders.

Vietnamese pepper is also gradually shifting to the high-end segment, focusing on organic pepper products and deeply processed pepper to increase export value.

In the first two months of the year, the average export price of pepper reached 6,746 USD/ton, up more than 68% compared to last year, reaching the highest level in nearly a decade. Vietnam continues to hold the number 1 position globally in pepper exports.

World pepper prices today

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on March 20 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia’s Lampung black pepper price decreased slightly compared to yesterday at USD 7,255/ton (down 0.59%). Similarly, Muntok white pepper price also decreased slightly compared to yesterday at USD 10,190/ton (down 0.59%).

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 6,900/mt.

Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,800/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at $12,300/ton.

Prices of all types of Vietnamese pepper increased slightly compared to yesterday. In particular, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l reached 7,100 USD/ton (up 1.41%); 550 gr/l reached 7,300 USD/ton (up 1.37%).

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price also increased slightly compared to yesterday, reaching 10,100 USD/ton (up 0.99%).

Global pepper production this year is expected to decline marginally to 480,000 tonnes, lower than last year's 484,000 tonnes, according to Prakash Namboodiri, business development director of Indian exporter AB Mauri.

Vietnam continues to be the largest producer, accounting for about 38-40% of global output, followed by Brazil (14-15%), India and Indonesia (11-12%).

In Vietnam, production is expected to fall from 183,000 tonnes to 180,000 tonnes. Meanwhile, India may see a decline from 55,000-57,000 tonnes to around 50,000-52,000 tonnes. In contrast, Brazil is recording an increase in production from 70,000 tonnes to 82,000-85,000 tonnes.

Output in other countries is also falling sharply, with India down 20-25%, Sri Lanka down 25-30%, and Indonesia down 8-10%.

The continuous decline in the stock-to-use ratio has caused pepper prices to increase sharply since last year. Carryover stocks in Vietnam, Brazil and other countries are also low.

Last year, demand from China dropped sharply, only 20-25% compared to before. However, this year, China has returned to the market, putting great pressure on supply, causing international pepper prices to continue to increase in the coming time.
