The rebound in pepper prices is a positive sign for the Vietnamese pepper industry after a long period of fluctuations. Higher prices than in previous years and brighter export prospects have encouraged many farmers to plant new plants and expand pepper growing areas, especially in provinces with traditional cultivation. This has created momentum for the industry to develop after a difficult period.
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in the first 15 days of October, Vietnam exported 9,039 tons of pepper, earning 58.3 million USD. The US was the largest market, accounting for 31.7% of the market share with 2,865 tons, and Olam was the largest exporter with 1,424 tons. From the beginning of the year to mid-October, Vietnam's total pepper export volume reached 209,933 tons, bringing in 1.05 billion USD, although down 1.9% in volume but up 47% in value compared to the same period last year.
Long-term forecasts show that pepper export prices will be supported by the expected decrease in Vietnam's pepper output in the 2025 season. The 2025 pepper harvest will be delayed until March and April due to the impact of drought, causing difficulties in supply. This may continue to impact pepper export prices in the coming time.
