Domestic producers and dealers are not actively selling their products, but are choosing to keep their products in stock, not worrying about possible price drops. The pepper market has not been very active recently, buyers are not too interested and suppliers are also cautious when distributing products.

Many farmers with financial means have chosen to buy and store pepper instead of saving it in banks with low interest rates, like businesses do. People did not buy pepper to store before, but now they understand the market better and start buying.

Pepper growers are currently happy with the high prices and expect prices to increase further, considering it a worthy reward for them after a period of low prices. Domestic black pepper prices and export prices of white pepper from Vietnam increased last week, while export prices of black pepper from Vietnam remained stable.

World pepper price today

Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Community (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 6,920 USD/ton (up 0.04%), and the price of Muntok white pepper at 9,400 USD/ton (up 0.03%).

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was at USD 6,750/ton (down 2.17%). The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper remained stable at USD 8,800/ton; the price of this country's ASTA white pepper reached USD 11,200/ton.

Vietnamese black pepper prices today are stable at a high level, trading at 6,800 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 7,100 USD/ton; white pepper prices at 10,150 USD/ton.

Global pepper exports are volatile, with Vietnam and Brazil, the two leading countries, recording declines, while Indonesia and India are seeing strong growth. The El Nino phenomenon has caused drought, affecting pepper production, especially in major producing countries such as Brazil and Vietnam, as well as smaller producing countries.

In the short term, world pepper prices are likely to be high due to tight supply. Brazil and Indonesia are harvesting, but global demand is not increasing and China is buying less, so prices are only rising slightly. In the long term, pepper export prices may be supported by the expected decrease in Vietnam's output in the 2025 crop, with harvests 1-2 months later than usual.

The Vietnam Import-Export Department expects the pepper industry to benefit from high export prices due to limited supply. VPSA said that pepper among the people has run out, only remaining in the warehouses of agents and businesses.
