Oil prices today, September 17: World oil prices increased slightly as the market considered the risk of supply disruption from Russia and the possibility of the Fed cutting interest rates at the upcoming meeting.
World oil prices today
As of 5:00 a.m. on September 17, Brent oil price increased by 67 cents, equivalent to 1%, to 68.11 USD/barrel, while US WTI oil increased by 82 cents, equivalent to 1.3%, to 64.12 USD/barrel.
A day earlier, Brent closed at $67.44 a barrel and WTI at $63.30 a barrel.

Ukraine has stepped up drone attacks on Russian oil refineries and energy export facilities, with JP Morgan analysts saying the aim could be to limit Moscow’s ability to export crude, with a direct impact on international markets.
Goldman Sachs estimates that in August and the first half of September alone, these attacks disrupted about 300,000 barrels per day of Russian refining capacity.
However, the bank said Russia's oil production would only decrease moderately as Asian customers, especially China and India, maintained import demand.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would not unilaterally impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods to force the country to stop buying Russian oil, unless European countries also apply measures against China and India.
The oil market is also closely watching the US Federal Reserve meeting on September 16-17. The possibility of the Fed cutting interest rates is expected to stimulate fuel demand, but analysts remain cautious about the health of the US economy.
Meanwhile, the market awaits official data on US crude oil inventories, due on September 18. Experts forecast inventories could fall by 6.4 million barrels last week, after rising by 3.9 million barrels the previous week. A Reuters survey also showed that US gasoline inventories are likely to fall, while distillate fuel inventories may increase slightly.
