Resolving disputed defense land areas

On the morning of March 14, the Ministry of National Defense held an online conference to summarize 24 years of implementing the Ordinance on the protection of national defense works and military zones (1994-2018).

Attending the Conference were comrade Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Politburo member, Prime Minister.General Ngo Xuan Lich - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense chaired the conference.

At Nghe An bridge, comrade Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and comrade Le Hong Vinh - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee co-chaired the conference. National defense works and military zones are State assets, assigned to the people's armed forces and authorities at all levels to build, manage, and use, serving the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Over the past 24 years, the Central Military Commission - Ministry of National Defense has closely coordinated with ministries, branches and functional agencies, directed the dissemination and education to raise awareness among officers, soldiers and people about the content of the ordinance; organized the management and strict protection of national defense works and military zones.

However, there are still some localities where encroachment and overlapping of defense land occurs. The acts of encroachment and destruction of defense works and military zones are mainly violations such as dismantling and stealing BTS broadcasting equipment, destroying old works, bunkers, and land boundary markers to take steel for economic purposes, etc.

With a particularly important strategic position in the defense of the military region and the whole country, Nghe An currently has 365 defense works and 336 military zones, which are closely managed and protected by military agencies and units in coordination with local Party committees, authorities and people in accordance with their functions.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested ministries, branches and localities to continue to closely coordinate with the Ministry of National Defense and military units, increase investment in the task of building defense zones; allocate budget to ensure the requirements of the task of building, managing and protecting defense works and military zones...

Concluding the conference, General Ngo Xuan Lich emphasized that some contents of the Ordinance on Protection of National Defense Works and Military Zones have not closely followed the practical situation, and it is necessary to propose that the National Assembly upgrade it to a law to be consistent with the current legal system, creating a solid legal basis,...

General Ngo Xuan Lich requested ministries, branches, localities and military units to continue to thoroughly grasp the viewpoint of carrying out the task of protecting the Fatherland early and from afar, reviewing the management of defense works and military zones; closely coordinating to thoroughly resolve disputed defense land areas…./.
