(Baonghean.vn)- On October 19, Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Mike Pompeo said that the US still hopes that China will do more to contain the nuclear threat from North Korea, based on the "great relationship" that has developed between President Xi Jinping and President Trump.

Speaking at a conference in Washington (USA), Mr. Pompeo stated: "We believe that President Xi can bring his dominant position with great capacity to solve problems around the world."

He added that “old CIA figures who dealt with Russia” during the former Soviet era are now monitoring political intrigue surrounding the 19th Congress, which is held every five years in China.

The US still hopes China will do more, given the “great relationship” that has developed between President Xi Jinping and President Trump.

“I hope they will seize this opportunity to demonstrate that they really do have an important role to play in mitigating global threats like North Korea’s nuclear weapons systems, and we’ve seen China’s behavior so far be good,” the CIA director said.

Mr Pompeo said Beijing had made progress in helping to contain the nuclear threat from the regime of leader Kim Jong-un.

However, according to Mr. Pompeo, the US still hopes that China will do more, based on the "great relationship" that has developed between President Xi Jinping and President Trump.

While China has shown the world that it is “dedicated” to helping the US resolve the North Korea crisis without resorting to military action, Mr. Pompeo said that Washington is ready to take military steps if there are no other viable options./.
