Winning the King's Cup runner-up position, Vietnam National Team maintains its position in Asia's Top 16
(Baonghean.vn) - Facing a highly rated opponent, Curacao, unexpectedly conceding the first goal, the Vietnamese team still fought confidently and equalized 1-1 in the official 90 minutes.
In the first minutes, Vietnam was the team that had the first chances. In the 12th minute, Van Toan rushed in to intercept a pass from a Curacao player. He was fouled but Cong Phuong used his speed to finish but failed.
In the 22nd minute, Vietnam suddenly had a chance to counterattack with Van Toan and Cong Phuong facing only 1 opponent defender. Van Toan got the ball on the right and decided to break through to attract the Curacao player, but his cross pass to Phuong was cleared by the opponent.
In the 30th minute, Duy Manh started the attack on the right wing and Trong Hoang, Quang Hai and Cong Phuong coordinated well on the right wing before Phuong brought the ball inside. Unfortunately, Van Toan was on the way to finish but the ball went low and wide of the post!
From the 30th minute onwards, Curacao began to accelerate and had some notable central attacks. Bacuna received the ball in the middle and went from the left to cut into the middle before shooting from a distance, sending the ball wide of the Vietnamese goal post.

In the rest of the first half, the Vietnamese defense continued to play well and ensure solidity. In the first 45 minutes, Coach Park's students created clear opportunities while Curacao did not show much.
Not long into the second half, the Vietnamese team had a beautiful arrangement and created the best opportunity from the beginning of the match in the 52nd minute. A few minutes later, Cong Phuong was the one who finished another good combination of the Vietnamese team but his shot went right into the opponent's goalkeeper's position.
In the 58th minute, the Vietnamese team was somewhat lax with their indecisive clearances and allowed Carolina to take a long-range shot with her left foot to open the score.
Having conceded a goal and needing to increase the attack, Coach Park sent striker Anh Duc onto the field to replace Bui Tien Dung in the 66th minute. The Vietnamese team returned to a 4-man defense, Van Hau was pulled back to play left back, opposite Trong Hoang.
After Cong Phuong missed a free kick opportunity in the 70th minute, the opponent almost increased the score to 2-0. Que Ngoc Hai's mistake created an opportunity for Benschop to rush down and face Van Lam, but Benschop's shot went over the crossbar.
In the 74th minute, Que Ngoc Hai was once again passed by Curacao's number 9 and approached Van Lam's goal. Fortunately, Benscho's shot went just wide of the crossbar. With only 15 minutes left in the match, defender Van Kien was brought in to replace Van Toan and Trong Hoang was pushed up to play as a midfielder.

Even when they were behind, the Vietnamese team calmly launched an attack and got results. In the 83rd minute, from a cross from Van Kien, Quang Hai intelligently passed the ball to Duc Huy who fired a tricky shot that left goalkeeper Victor Room rooted to the spot. The score was 1-1 for the Vietnamese team.
After 90 minutes of regulation time without any goals, Vietnam and Curacao entered a penalty shootout. In Vietnam's penalty shootout, Cong Phuong missed and lost 4-5. Losing in the final, Vietnam only received the runner-up position at King's Cup 2019.
However, this result helps the Vietnamese team officially enter the Top 16 strongest teams in Asia on the FIFA rankings and become more favorable in the journey to the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers./.
