Teachers surprised because Vietnam Education Publishing House 'secretly corrected' textbooks
After students protested that he taught wrongly, an elementary school teacher was surprised when his textbook was changed without him knowing.
Recently, a 4th grade teacher shared: "Today, I taught the lesson The Mandarin Flying a Kite (Vietnamese 4, volume 1, page 104). After the student read the lesson "In the reign of King Tran Thai Tong, there was a poor family...", I criticized the student for misreading King Tran Nhan Tong as King Tran Thai Tong. After that, the whole class protested that the teacher had taught wrongly. I was startled to see that my book was different from the student's book."
Accordingly, in the poem The Mandarin Flying a Kite (Vietnamese 4, volume one, page 104), right in the opening sentence, some books are printed in the reign of King Tran Nhan Tong, some are printed in the reign of King Tran Thai Tong.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House said: Vietnamese Book 4, volume one, first printed in 2005, includes the text The mandarin flies a kite, faithfully adapted from the original by writer Trinh Duong, which states: "During the reign of King Tran Nhan Tong, there was a poor family...".
However, right after the first publication, the editor of Vietnam Education Publishing House discovered that Nguyen Hien lived during the reign of King Tran Thai Tong, not Tran Nhan Tong.
“After checking again, we found that this discovery was correct. And right after that, when reprinted for the first time, the text was corrected to: “During the reign of King Tran Thai Tong, there was a poor family…”. We checked several later reprints and found that it was correctly written as Tran Thai Tong,” said Mr. Tung.
After receiving an explanation from the Vietnam Education Publishing House, this teacher indignantly shared: After discovering the error, the Vietnam Education Publishing House did not have any public correction document, leading to those who use old books not being able to detect the error. This causes difficulties in learning and teaching, especially explaining to young students.
“The publishing house should have a document widely and publicly announcing all errors and corrected errors in textbooks for each school year, not secretly correcting them like above. Publicly making corrections for each school year will help teachers promptly monitor and adjust knowledge to be correct, avoiding unfortunate mistakes,” this teacher shared.
