Assessing at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc, Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, stated: In 2015, although there was heavy rain at the beginning of the season, overall the weather was favorable during the season, so the area and productivity of some crops increased.
In particular, winter corn production, in addition to contributing to the completion of the annual grain crop plan, also has a strong shift to the production of goods with high economic value such as corn production for animal feed, fresh corn, etc.
Many models of crops and fish for the third crop have been put into production on large areas, generating income of tens to hundreds of millions of VND/ha.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc, Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, presented the 2016 Winter Crop Production Project. |
Based on lessons learned from the limitations of the 2015 winter crop such as: The organization of winter crop production in some localities is still not drastic, the movement of winter crop production on double-rice land has decreased, the application of mechanization in winter crop production is still limited... the agricultural sector has proposed many specific solutions for winter crop production in 2016.
The whole Nghe An province strives to plant over 40,300 hectares of various crops, including 27,000 hectares of corn, 1,300 hectares of peanuts and 12,000 hectares of various vegetables and beans (of which 6,000 hectares of corn on two-rice land and over 5,000 hectares of corn for animal feed); 3,200 hectares of fish for the third crop and 5,500 hectares of other crops such as sweet potatoes and industrial crops. Depending on the type of crop, it is necessary to complete planting before October 30.

Green squash plants bring high efficiency in winter crop in Thanh Linh commune, Thanh Chuong |
Localities base on specific characteristics of land and intensive farming ability to select a structure of 4-6 corn varieties, prioritizing the use of varieties with high yield potential and good quality such as NK 66, NK 6326, LVN 14, CP999, etc. At the same time, contact dairy and beef cattle companies to produce corn varieties with large biomass such as NK 6326, CP 111, CP511, etc.
In addition, localities can choose other corn varieties that have been planted and tested with good results in the past in the province such as NK66BT/GT, NK4300BT/GT, LVN885..., trial production varieties NK6101, CP501S...
Based on the time frame and varieties mentioned in the project, depending on the specific situation of each locality, each region and the development of floods, localities should consider and calculate a planting plan that is close to the situation to both minimize damage caused by floods and ensure high productivity and not affect spring planting. Particularly for corn on double-rice land, it must be harvested before January 30 of the following year to free up land for spring production in 2017.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Lap, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, requested: In addition to solutions on varieties, timing, balanced and reasonable fertilizer investment and good pest and disease prevention, for winter crops, attention must be paid to drainage to prevent local flooding, in which the most important concern is peanuts, vegetables and some corn areas on double-rice land (especially during the period when corn is flowering and growing silk). For fish farming in the third rice crop, it is necessary to monitor the situation of rain and flood and water level in the fields to make appropriate adjustments for good fish growth.
