Mr. Hung reported that when the fire broke out on the night of November 24, his whole family panicked and ran down to the first floor and saw thick smoke. The fire paralyzed the roller shutters so everyone had to go back upstairs to open the windows to avoid suffocation and find a way out.Outside, neighbors and passersby gathered to help the homeowner put out the fire. The fire was later extinguished, and Mr. Hung's family was safe.
Security cameras recorded images of two people on a motorbike, wearing hooded sweatshirts, holding a bottle containing liquid (suspected to be gasoline) pouring it on the door area and two potted plants and then setting them on fire. When the fire broke out, the two people left.
Mr. Hung said the fire completely damaged the rolling door, three trees withered and some other properties were damaged.
On November 28, Sam Son City Police summoned a number of suspects to clarify the act of destroying Mr. Hung's family's property. Two strangers poured gasoline and set fire to a house.

The investigation agency determined that Mr. Hung was a businessman and had no conflicts with anyone. However, recently, a group of young men came to his house many times to inform him that his younger brother, Cao Van Phong, owed more than 430 million VND and asked Mr. Hung to pay on his behalf. Because Mr. Phong was not at home, Mr. Hung negotiated to pay in installments, but the group of young men did not agree.
Authorities believe this may be the reason why this group of people set fires, destroyed property, and threatened to collect debts.
