Two male students from a district school share the secret to getting a perfect score in Math

Overcoming difficult circumstances to study well

We visited Nong The Nam's family in village 5, Hoi Son commune in the late afternoon. In the old and dilapidated house, Nam and his mother were weeding the small garden. Stopping to talk to us, Nam shared: "I was born and raised in a family with extremely difficult circumstances, with two children. In 2012, when I was only 6 years old, my father passed away due to a serious illness. Since then, my mother has been working hard to buy each bundle of vegetables to raise my two children." Realizing his situation early, seeing his mother struggling to take care of his two children from food, clothes to education, Nam was diligent and eager to learn from the very first days of school, always trying to excel in his studies, so as not to disappoint his mother.

With his own efforts, Nong The Nam has strived to be good, study well and achieve high academic results, earning the respect of many friends and teachers. During the 9 years of school, Nam has been an excellent student in all aspects. In the 6th and 7th grade, Nam was selected to participate in the district's excellent student competition in all 3 subjects: Math, Physics, English and achieved high results (in the 8th grade, due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the district did not organize the competition). In the 9th grade, Nam won the third prize in the provincial excellent student competition in Physics; the first prize in the district's excellent student competition in Physics, and the second prize in Math and English.

In this year's 10th grade entrance exam, I got 44.6 points, including 10 points in Math, 7.5 points in Literature and 7.6 points in English.

Sharing about his learning method, Nam said that in class he pays attention to the teacher's lectures to grasp the knowledge. With difficult or unclear exercises, he boldly asks questions right in class. At home, he diligently solves many exercises, does not give up when faced with difficult exercises. Outside of class, he also borrows advanced books from friends and teachers and copies good math problems into his notebook to study.

For Math, Nam needs passion and must constantly nurture it with a learning method that does not feel boring, hard or pressured to learn all the algebra and geometry parts. As for other subjects, Nam makes a specific study plan, allocating appropriate time. First of all, he must build a detailed plan for each hour, each day and each week with the motto "The next day must be faster, more, more effective than the previous day". In the evening, he starts studying from 7:30 to 11 o'clock to bring the highest efficiency. Every Sunday, he spends time reviewing what he has done and what he has not done, from there he plans for the next week more effectively.

Impressive achievements of a student in a mountainous district

Smart, gentle, and polite are easy to see when meeting Nguyen Ba Dat, who just got a score of 10 in Math in this year's 10th grade entrance exam, won first prize in Math, the provincial exam for excellent 9th grade students in the 2020-2021 school year, and won second prize in the entrance exam to Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in the 2021-2022 school year, specialized in Math.

Receiving us in a small house in village 5, Hoi Son commune, Mr. Nguyen Ba Nhan, Dat's father, said: Both he and his wife do not have stable jobs. They used to work as workers at the 19/5 Cement Factory, but the factory was later dissolved and they both became freelancers. Every day, he and his wife go to work early in the morning and come back late in the evening. Due to their busy work, they do not have much time to tutor and guide their children in their studies. Knowing this, the couple trained their children to be self-disciplined in their studies from a young age and are very happy that they are all obedient, well-behaved, and good students. Dat's older sister was also an excellent student at all levels and is currently in her final year at the Banking Academy.

With his hard-working, self-studying, self-disciplining nature, combined with his intelligence, creativity and the dedicated guidance of his teachers, throughout his studies, Dat always achieved high academic results and was admired by his friends. During his 9 years of study, Dat was an excellent student in all aspects, topping all classes with a total score of over 9. Right from the time he entered 6th grade, Dat was an important "nucleus" in the excellent student training team of Anh Son Secondary School. In the district's excellent student competitions, Dat always achieved high scores in Math and English.

Specifically, in grade 6, he won second prize in Math and English; in grade 7, he won first prize in Math and second prize in English; and this grade 9, he won first prize in Math and Physics. In this year's provincial excellent student competition, Dat made an impression when he excellently won first prize in Math with a score of 16.63.

Teacher Tran Thi Chau - Principal of Anh Son Secondary School said: In the entrance exam for grade 10 of high school in the 2021-2022 school year, Anh Son Secondary School had 121 students taking the exam, of which the average score for Literature was 7.98 points, with 8 students scoring 9 points or higher; the average score for Math was 7.23 points, with 8 students scoring 9 points or higher, of which 2/13 students scored 10 points in the whole province, namely Nong The Nam and Nguyen Ba Dat; the average score for English was 9 points or higher./.
