Greedy for 700 thousand salary, man in Nghe An gets 20 years in prison
(Baonghean.vn) - And Ba Ta (residing in Tuong Duong district, Nghe An) said that he agreed to transport drugs because he needed money to buy medicine for his father. Before receiving his payment, Ta was discovered and caught red-handed by the authorities.
On October 22, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of Va Ba Ta (born 1976, residing in Mai Son commune, Tuong Duong) for the crime of Illegally transporting drugs.

According to the investigation records, at around 2:00 p.m. on June 10, while Ta was working in the fields, he met a Lao man (whose specific background was not determined). This man told Ta to take a package of drugs to Huoi To village (Mai Son commune) and give it to a man named Hong standing on the side of the road. After delivering the goods, he returned here, and the Lao man would pay him 700,000 VND as a fee.
When Va Ba Ta brought the above drugs to Huoi To village, he was caught red-handed by the Working Group of Nhon Mai Border Guard Station. The evidence seized from Ta was 30 plastic bags containing nearly 600 grams of synthetic drugs (Methamphetamine).
At the trial, Va Ba Ta admitted all the crimes as charged in the indictment. The defendant said that because his father was seriously ill and needed money to buy medicine, he agreed when the Lao people hired him to transport drugs. Va Ba Ta hoped that his sentence would be reduced so that he could return home soon to take care of his elderly parents and 6 young children.
Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Va Ba Ta to 20 years in prison for the crime of Illegally transporting drugs.
