According to legend, 594 years ago, this was the place where the Lam Son insurgents led by General Le Loi chose as a strategic rear base to prepare for decisive battles, first of all Tra Lan citadel (in Bong Khe commune - Con Cuong today). This was both a capital and an important military base of the Ming army.
Winning the battle of Bo Dang (in present-day Quy Chau district), Lam Son's insurgents recruited more soldiers and received food support from the local people to besiege Tra Lan citadel, cut off the rescue route, and forced the enemy to surrender. After capturing Tra Lan citadel, the insurgents continued to advance downstream, capturing a series of enemy citadels and then marched north, liberating Thang Long citadel, and eliminating the yoke of the Ming Dynasty.

After the victory at Tra Lan citadel, the people of Tien Ky organized a festival to celebrate the army. Since then, every year on the 20th of the 8th lunar month, the people here organize the Buon Xao festival./.
