Hundreds of hectares of vegetables in Quynh Luu are damaged and slow to grow.
(Baonghean.vn) - For nearly 3 months, the weather has been erratic, with continuous heavy rains, causing hundreds of hectares of specialized vegetable crops in the coastal areas of Quynh Luu district to be damaged or slow to grow right after being planted; causing great damage to farmers.
This time last year was the main harvest season for vegetables, especially green onions, for farmers in the coastal areas of Quynh Luu district. But this year, due to the weather and heavy rain, many vegetable areas were completely damaged.
While clearing the grass in the field and collecting the remaining onion clumps after the flood, Mr. Ho Van Dong, hamlet 3, Quynh Minh commune, said: With 5 sao of fertile land, for more than 3 months now, every time my family has planted onions, they have encountered storms and rains, causing almost all of them to rot. One sao costs more than 2 million VND in seeds and fertilizers, not to mention the care. Due to frequent rains, the amount of water stored in the sandy soil is large, and my family's onion fields are mainly in low-lying areas, so now just a small rain can cause flooding.

Similarly, Mrs. Tran Thi Hai's family in Hamlet 4, Quynh Luong Commune has 3 sao of onions, if the weather is favorable, it will only take 1.5 - 2 months to harvest. However, due to heavy rain, planting onions for more than 2 months now costs a lot of money and effort, but many areas are rotten, damaged, others cannot grow, the plants are stunted.
Ms. Hai shared: "The weather is erratic, so people cannot predict how to take care of their crops properly, because if they fertilize and it rains, the onions cannot survive. My family's onion fields are constantly flooded, so there has been no harvest for 2-3 months now."

Previously, in the coastal area of Quynh Luu district (Quynh Luong, Quynh Minh, Quynh Bang communes), hundreds of tons of vegetables of all kinds were supplied to the markets of the southern and northern provinces every day. However, due to heavy rains, the output and quality of vegetables have both decreased, prices are unstable, causing losses of tens of billions of VND.
Mr. Ho Nguyen Tuan - Vice Chairman of Quynh Luong Commune People's Committee said: Scallions are the main crop in the locality, but currently in the area there are only a few areas left, with very little output.
The commune identifies the winter crop as the main crop, so the locality structures 50-60% of the area for green onions, the rest for tomatoes, cabbage, and various vegetables, to diversify the components in the production structure.

At this time, communes are focusing on restructuring the planting of vegetables, tubers and fruits to suit the weather from now until the end of the year. Currently, localities are actively propagating to households to promote the work of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, preparing the best conditions for winter crop production to ensure the set plan. At the same time, complying with the processes of safe biological vegetable production to improve efficiency, increase productivity and end-of-season output; meeting consumer demand./.
