(Baonghean.vn) - To overcome and prevent potential risks affecting health and the environment, hundreds of farmers in Nghia Dan (Nghe An) went to the fields to collect used pesticide packaging.

With the slogan: "Let's join hands to protect the environment", from early morning, farmers' association members of hamlet 9, Nghia Duc commune collected used pesticide bags, bottles and vials in the fields and gathered them in a separate area for destruction.

Mr. Bui Van Nghinh - Member of the Farmers' Association of Hamlet 9, Nghia Duc Commune said: "We work and propagate to other families that when producing, they must dispose of pesticide bags properly to avoid environmental pollution."

In Nghia Yen commune, the construction of a tank to store pesticide packaging has contributed to raising awareness and changing environmental protection behavior of farmers.

It has become a habit that after each time mixing pesticides in the fields, Ms. Le Thi Hieu in Dua hamlet, Nghia Yen always carefully collects all kinds of packaging and bottles and puts them in the collection tank in the fields.

“Before there was no tank, there were a lot of pesticide containers in the fields, especially near water sources, where it was convenient to mix pesticides. Since the tank was built, when mixing was done, people in the village would throw the containers in there. This has become a habit for the people,” Ms. Hieu shared.

To promote the effectiveness of collecting and treating used pesticide packaging, the Farmers' Association guides people to choose appropriate pesticides and use them according to the 4-right rule (right drug, right time, right concentration, right way).

Mr. Phan The Phuong - representative of the Farmers' Association of Nghia Dan district said: "Up to now, we have simultaneously deployed to all hamlets, collecting and treating pesticide packaging well. This activity raises farmers' awareness, contributes to reducing environmental pollution, protecting public health, and building a new green, clean, and beautiful rural environment."

Every year, Nghe An uses about 300 tons of various pesticides, equivalent to 15-20 tons of packaging. However, the amount of pesticide waste collected for treatment is very small, so the work of Nghia Dan farmers needs to be widely replicated.
