Hundreds of girls respond to the contest 'It's great to be a girl'

(Baonghean.vn) - This is the first time the contest has been held for secondary school students to create a playground and a healthy, useful and practical opportunity for girls to exchange.

On the morning of November 10, the Department of Population - Family Planning coordinated with the Steering Committee for Population and Development of Nghia Dan district to organize the contest "Be a girl to shine".

Participating in this contest, the teams of Loi Lac Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Nghia Trung Secondary School, and Phu Tho Secondary School of the district will go through 3 rounds including: Greeting - Self-introduction, Knowledge - "Affirmation"; Talent - "Shining" with many contents such as demonstrating talent, knowledge and skills on reproductive health issues for adolescents and youth, and presenting on topics.

The contest is an important activity to promote the role of Party committees at all levels, authorities, departments, branches, organizations, and people in the importance of children's work, especially girls.

Thereby, it also contributes to raising awareness, changing people's concepts and behaviors on gender issues, contributing to reducing gender imbalance at birth; to motivate and encourage girls to be confident and strive to exercise their rights to equality in the future.

This is also an opportunity for students to demonstrate their talents, intelligence, creativity and access accurate and reliable information about reproductive health care. At the same time, it helps girls improve their understanding, knowledge and basic life skills, so that they are aware of protecting their own health, have a healthy and pure lifestyle, maintain the innocent and lovely features of school age and are the luggage to help them be more confident when entering life.

Previously, in Vietnam according to census datapopulationand housing in 1999, the sex ratio at birth was 107 boys/100 girls. However, 10 years later this ratio was 110.5 (in 2009) and increased to 114.8 (in 2019). The sex imbalance at birth tends to continue to increase and spread to rural, urban and all regions.

In Nghe An, the sex ratio at birth has increased from 111 boys/100 girls (in 2009) to 114 boys/100 girls (in 2019). Meanwhile, the normal biological birth rate is only 105-107 boys/100 girls born.

The imbalance in the sex ratio at birth will negatively affect the future population structure of Vietnam, leading to a surplus of men in society. In addition, it can also cause serious consequences for the country's economic and social development.

After 3 thrilling and dramatic rounds, the Organizing Committee awarded the First Prize to Phu Tho Secondary School, and the Second Prize to Nghia Trung Secondary School and Loi Lac Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities. In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded the prizes: "Promising Voice" to Dang Thi An Na, "Preserving the traditional beauty of Vietnamese women - Housework" to Loi Lac Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, and "Best Costume" to Phu Tho Secondary School.
