Diplomat's luggage: 'Right role, know the lesson, bravery, intelligence, cleverness'

On the afternoon of August 27, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Ambassadors and Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad (term 2016-2019) before leaving for his new duties.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh and Head of the Central External Relations Commission Hoang Binh Quan attended the reception.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong congratulated the comrades who have been trusted by the Party, State and people and assigned the role of Ambassador and Head of Vietnam's representative agencies abroad. Notably, this time there are 4 female Ambassadors, bringing the total number of Vietnamese female Ambassadors abroad to 14.

The General Secretary also highly appreciated the successful results of the 29th Diplomatic Conference; appreciated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for carefully preparing the Ambassadors and Chief Representatives for their departure to take up their duties this time, especially in terms of research, study as well as working sessions with ministries, branches and localities.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that the qualifications of Ambassadors and Heads of Representative Agencies can be summarized in 10 words: "Right role, well-versed, courageous, intelligent, and clever."

According to the General Secretary, “playing the right role” means performing the right duties, functions, and responsibilities. Specifically, what to do and how to behave in internal and external affairs, building the internal organization, and preserving the community.

"Memorizing the lesson" means having knowledge, understanding, firmly grasping, and thoroughly understanding the Party and State's guidelines, viewpoints, policies, and strategies in a comprehensive manner, especially regarding foreign affairs.

In addition, it is necessary to have a firm grasp of the characteristics, actual situation, geography, history, culture, and customs of the locality to always act proactively, the General Secretary advised. At the same time, it is necessary to clearly understand what is needed domestically, what is available abroad, what will be done each year during the term, and what the focus will be.

To do that, the General Secretary believes that Ambassadors and Heads of Representative Agencies must have courage, intelligence and cleverness. With knowledge, there will be courage to not be swayed or bribed, to firmly adhere to the path of national independence and socialism, for the benefit of the nation and the people.

The General Secretary wished the Ambassadors and Heads of Representative Agencies appointed this time to successfully complete their assigned tasks, build strong, united and cohesive agencies, in which the heads must be absolutely exemplary in all aspects, thereby contributing to the achievements of the diplomatic sector.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh sincerely thanked the General Secretary for taking the time to attend and give instructions at the 29th Diplomatic Conference as well as receiving and assigning specific tasks to the Ambassadors and Heads of representative agencies.

The 29th Diplomatic Conference thoroughly grasped the General Secretary's instructions and incorporated them into the Action Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representative agencies.

The General Secretary also concluded and gave the Ambassadors and Heads of Representative Agencies important luggage, requiring them to have a high sense of responsibility to excellently fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people./.
