According to CNN, Hillary Clinton is undeniably in good health despite her busy travel schedule. However, on September 11, she abruptly left the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York. In a statement released Sunday night, Lisa Bardack, Hillary's personal physician, revealed that she had pneumonia, fever and dehydration but was recovering.
A few days earlier, the Republican Party had voiced suspicions that Mrs. Clinton was suffering from serious physical problems due to her constant coughing during the election campaign. The former Secretary of State's side insisted that she was just suffering from seasonal allergies. Once again, questions about the 68-year-old candidate's health arose.
In July 2015, Dr. Bardack said that Mrs. Clinton is a healthy 67-year-old woman with health problems including hypothyroidism and seasonal allergies. She has previously suffered from deep vein thrombosis in 1998 and 2000, a fractured elbow in 2009, and a concussion in 2012. She leads a healthy lifestyle and has undergone a comprehensive medical evaluation, with no evidence of other diseases such as cardiovascular disease. Cancer screening tests have been negative. She is in excellent physical condition and fit to serve as president of the United States.
In 1998, Hillary, then First Lady of the United States, began taking blood thinners to prevent blood clots. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says blood clots can form in the deep veins if you sit for too long, a threat to those who fly long distances. It becomes serious when the clot breaks free and travels to other parts of the body, such as the lungs. In addition to blood thinners, Hillary also took medication to treat hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland is underactive and does not produce enough hormones.
In the summer of 2009, Hillary broke her right elbow in a fall at the State Department office. After a two-hour surgery, the damaged bone was said to have completely healed.
In December 2012, she fainted and suffered a concussion from a stomach virus. Doctors also found a blood clot in her brain and quickly treated it.
"What we know from Hillary's medical records is that while she had some issues, she was fully evaluated and has no long-term effects," said CNN Medical Director Dr. Sanjay Gupta. He said it was difficult to comment further on Hillary's health until additional information was available, and advised the 68-year-old candidate not to take the pneumonia lightly.
