The Yellow River Water Resources Commission under the Ministry of Water Resources issued a low-level flood warning on July 21 after a hydrological station in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, measured the flow of the Yellow River flowing through the area at 3,000 cubic meters per second at 8 p.m. on July 20.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in the provinces in the Yangtze River basin remains very complicated. Jiangxi, Anhui and Hubei provinces are among the most severely affected.
Persistent heavy rains since early June have caused the water levels of 433 rivers across the mainland to rise above the alarm level, causing serious flooding in 27 Chinese provinces and cities, especially the Yangtze River basin.
Preliminary statistics from QQ show that natural disasters have left 141 people dead or missing, affected more than 40 million people, and caused estimated economic losses of up to 86.2 billion yuan (more than 12.3 billion USD).
